Global Community Engagement

The focus at Autoneum is on personal commitment to nonprofit projects. Accordingly, Autoneum’s employees at all 50 Autoneum locations around the world support numerous activities each year in social and environmental areas. While doing so, the emphasis is on the proverbial active support of projects by our local employees. The commitment to a good cause is very much appreciated by all participants as both a personal and professional enrichment.

Europe – Recycling for a good purpose

Since the beginning of the year, employees at the French Autoneum locations have been collecting bottle caps and aluminum cans to support the purchase of new wheelchairs for handicapped children. Special collection points for caps and cans have therefore been installed at the locations to make it as easy as possible for employees to participate. At the end of the year, the collected bottle caps and cans will be brought to the charitable associations, “Roulez petits bouchons,” “K’net” and “Bouchons 276,” which will finance new wheelchairs with the disposal of the reusable materials.

North America – Ride on the Big Bike to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation

In May 2016, more than 50 employees of Autoneum Tillsonburg (Canada) peddled hard for a good cause: to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation – one of Canada’s largest health charities – they were riding the “Big Bike,” an oversized bicycle with thirty seats through the inner city of Tillsonburg, raising more than 6,000 dollars. The funds were donated to support research in the field of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and stroke. It was the second year in a row that Autoneum Tillsonburg participated in the “Big Bike Ride.” This year, together with other participating companies, a total of 20,000 dollars was collected and handed over to the foundation.

Asia – Book donation for Chinese school children

Although most children in China have the opportunity to go to school today, there are still some schools in poor areas where no reading books are available to promote reading and writing among children. The organization “Shang Education Support Project” was founded in 2006 for the purpose of establishing and furnishing school libraries in poor areas. This also includes the Ajinwan Primary School in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. They have 220 students, 64 preschool children, ten teachers, six classes, and a library, but no books. Employees of our five Autoneum plants in China are supporting the school by collecting 1,000 new and secondhand books from various genres including history, encyclopedic knowledge, classic literature, fairy tales and science fiction. A continuation of this project is in planning.

SAMEA (South America, Middle East and Africa) – Planting trees to combat climate change

Aimed at promoting environmental protection worldwide, the United Nations established World Environment Day (WED) in 1974. In 2016, it took place on June 5th and served as the motivation for numerous environmental actions around the world. Our colleagues in Argentina also honored the day by taking the opportunity to plant indigenous jacaranda and lapacho trees close to the Autoneum plant in Córdoba. Trees are excellent CO2 reservoirs and thereby help to reduce global warming. What was launched on World Environment Day (WED) shall become a tradition in the future: Autoneum employees in Argentina plan to repeat the planting of trees to make a contribution toward maintaining indigenous species.
