Controllable Surrogate Engine Gearbox Unit for the Analysis of Noise Emissions

The ENS (Engine Noise Simulator) simulates the noise characteristics of an engine gearbox unit in a small to medium-sized car. The realistic portrayal permits a precise analysis of the airborne noise transmission from the engine to the passenger compartment of a vehicle. The simulation of the noise emissions of a vehicle power unit enables valid measurements to be made that take into account specific aspects associated with the noise emissions of different engine surfaces.

ENS offers:

  • Measurement of the impact of materials and components for noise protection
  • Quantification of the effect of modifications to the vehicle body-in-white or trim
  • Simulation of the noise levels in the passenger compartment resulting from alternative positionings of the engine
  • Calculation of exterior engine noise (stationary or pass-by)

  • Analysis of noise emissions of different engine surfaces
